Polycarbonate provides superior impact resistance and is not only stronger than acrylic but over 200 times stronger than glass, it is almost unbreakable. The material will not shatter like glass and carries a UK Class 1 Fire Rating making it the material of choice in many public buildings, airports, schools and where safety and security is required. Polycarbonate is popular for window glazing where security is a high priority, machine guards, rally car windows, vandal proofing, security screens and wall protection.
Polycarbonate can sometimes be referred to as Lexan®, Makrolon® or Palsun®. These are simply brand names of polycarbonate, much like Hoover® is with regards to vacuum cleaners.
Tolerance: Polycarbonate has an industry standard thickness tolerance of +/-5%.
